Hershel has phantom pain, but how is Hershel doing fine without his leg so fast?

Psychologically, Hershel is fine because he's alive. In the apocalypse, small things like losing half your leg doesn't seem that bad compared to what's going on out there in the world. Physically being able to move around, he was slow on the crutches. Though it has only been his first or second day up.
